Tension gripped Warri, Delta State, on Saturday after violent clashes broke out between Itsekiri and Urhobo youths at Okere Roundabout.
Eyewitnesses reported that the rival groups exchanged gunfire and attacked one another during the confrontation, leaving several people injured. Initially, police officers were said to be present at the scene but did not intervene, sparking outrage among residents.
The situation later escalated, prompting the arrival of armed operatives from the Nigeria Police Force. The officers reportedly used tear gas to disperse the warring youths and restore order to the troubled area.
Several individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the clash, but the incident has heightened concerns over security and community relations in the region.
