Tensions in Serbia are intensifying as violent clashes between supporters and opponents of the government enter a second consecutive night.
Protests, which have persisted for over nine months against populist President Aleksandar Vucic, erupted into chaos on Wednesday after demonstrators gathered outside the headquarters of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.

According to local media, large groups of men armed with sticks and bottles attacked protesters in front of the party’s offices. The violence spread to the northern city of Novi Sad, where both sides hurled flares and objects at one another, prompting riot police to step in and restore order.

The unrest was not confined to one city. In Belgrade, riot police deployed tear gas to disperse anti-government demonstrators, while in the central town of Kraljevo, security forces were forced to separate opposing groups to prevent further violence.
Protests also flared in the southern city of Nis and in the central towns of Cacak and Kragujevac, with thousands taking to the streets nationwide.
