Severe thunderstorms and torrential downpours wreaked havoc across the Northeast on Thursday, prompting officials in New York and New Jersey to declare states of emergency due to dangerous flash flooding. This marks the second major flooding event to hit the region in just two weeks, intensifying concerns over the area’s flood resilience and emergency response readiness.

In anticipation of worsening conditions, several businesses allowed employees to leave early in both New York City and parts of New Jersey. Commuters faced significant disruptions as local authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel. New York City’s emergency management agency issued a public advisory warning of possible street, basement, and transit system flooding.
