U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a new 10 to 12-day deadline for Russia to demonstrate concrete progress toward ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. The announcement came during Trump’s visit to Scotland, where he is meeting with European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Speaking to reporters, Trump expressed growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the prolonged conflict, now entering its fourth year.

“There’s no reason in waiting… We just don’t see any progress being made,” Trump stated. His remarks reflect a shift in tone, as he shortens an earlier 50-day deadline set at the beginning of the month.

The U.S. president warned that failure to meet the new timeline could lead to direct consequences — including expanded sanctions on Russia and restrictions targeting those who continue purchasing Russian exports. Trump emphasized that his patience was running out, and suggested that tougher measures are likely if Russia does not act swiftly.

While the Kremlin has not issued an immediate response, the move sparked a sharp reaction from Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and close Putin ally. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev accused Trump of issuing “ultimatums” that edge the situation closer to direct conflict. “Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war — not with Ukraine, but with [Trump’s] own country,” Medvedev wrote.

On the other hand, Ukraine has welcomed the U.S. president’s renewed commitment. Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, took to social media to thank Trump for his strong stance. “Standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength — we are grateful,” Yermak wrote.
