Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to enter into an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, beginning at midnight on Monday, July 28, 2025. The announcement was made by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who played a key role in mediating the talks between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.

“Both Cambodia and Thailand reached a common understanding as follows: an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with effect from 24:00 local time, midnight on 28th July 2025,” Prime Minister Anwar stated during a press conference in Malaysia following high-level negotiations.

The ceasefire comes after a period of rising tensions and border clashes that had threatened to destabilize the region. The agreement is being hailed as a diplomatic victory for Malaysia, which has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring both parties to the negotiation table.

While the full details of the accord have yet to be released, the commitment to an unconditional cessation of hostilities marks a critical step toward de-escalation. Regional observers hope it will pave the way for further dialogue, mutual cooperation, and a long-term resolution to underlying disputes.

The ceasefire is expected to go into effect promptly at midnight local time, and both sides are under international observation to ensure compliance. Peace advocates and regional leaders have welcomed the agreement, calling it a necessary move to preserve stability and prevent further humanitarian fallout.
