In a significant blow to Hamas’s underground operations, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have successfully demolished a 500-meter-long tunnel in northern Gaza. The tunnel, discovered in Beit Hanoun, was identified as part of Hamas’s extensive subterranean network used for military purposes.
According to the IDF, the operation was carried out after troops from the 646th Paratroopers Brigade — currently serving in reserve — uncovered the tunnel during ongoing efforts to locate and neutralize underground threats.

The discovery forms part of Israel’s broader mission to dismantle Hamas’s hidden infrastructure, which poses a persistent danger to both soldiers and civilians.

Once the tunnel was identified, the IDF’s elite Yahalom combat engineering unit was deployed to execute the demolition. Known for their expertise in handling complex engineering and demolition missions, Yahalom operatives ensured the tunnel was safely destroyed, eliminating a potential route for smuggling, movement of militants, or launching attacks.
