Turkey is grappling with a wave of intense wildfires fueled by scorching temperatures and arid conditions, prompting the government to declare two of its western provinces as official disaster zones. The blazes, which erupted along the country’s Mediterranean coastline, have forced emergency services into overdrive as firefighters battle to contain multiple infernos.

The crisis began to escalate on Friday, when wildfires broke out in the coastal areas east of Antalya, including the provinces of Adana and Mersin. Authorities swiftly classified these regions as disaster zones due to the scale and intensity of the fires, as well as the growing threat to lives, homes, and ecosystems.

Meanwhile, in central Turkey, fires continued to burn in Eskisehir and neighboring Karabuk, where crews have been engaged in relentless efforts for several days. Thick smoke, soaring flames, and high winds have made firefighting efforts particularly difficult, with local communities facing severe disruptions and evacuations.

The Turkish government has pledged full support to affected areas, mobilizing emergency resources, deploying helicopters and water bombers, and coordinating with local agencies to bring the situation under control. While the exact cause of the fires is still under investigation, experts point to the extreme heat and dry summer conditions as likely culprits.
