U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has been in direct contact with the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand in an effort to mediate an end to the escalating border conflict that has already claimed at least 33 lives.
Speaking from Scotland, where he is on a private visit, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to reveal his outreach and push for a swift ceasefire.

“Just spoke to the Prime Minister of Cambodia relative to stopping the War with Thailand,” Trump wrote in an initial post. He followed up shortly after, saying he also had a “very good conversation” with the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand.
“Thailand, like Cambodia, wants to have an immediate Ceasefire, and PEACE,” Trump added. “I am now going to relay that message back to the Prime Minister of Cambodia. After speaking to both Parties, Ceasefire, Peace, and Prosperity seems to be a natural. We will soon see!”

The remarks come as clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces entered their third day, with the latest fighting erupting along the countries’ shared coastal border near the Gulf of Thailand—about 250 kilometers southwest of the original flashpoints. The violence has displaced tens of thousands and triggered international concern over the region’s stability.

Trump, invoking his past efforts to mediate international conflicts, compared the situation to the long-standing India-Pakistan tensions. “Many people are being killed in this War, but it very much reminds me of the Conflict between Pakistan and India, which was brought to a successful halt,” he wrote.
In a notable move, Trump also hinted that ongoing U.S. trade negotiations with both nations would be paused until the conflict is resolved. “I am trying to simplify a complex situation,” he added, noting the urgent humanitarian toll the fighting is taking.

While it remains to be seen whether Trump’s personal diplomacy will yield results, his intervention places the White House at the center of an unfolding regional crisis. With casualties rising and international pressure mounting, a peaceful resolution to the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute now appears to rest heavily on swift and coordinated diplomatic efforts.
