A Russian Geran-2 drone strike ignited a fire at the Lukyanivska metro station in Kyiv, where dozens of civilians were sheltering at the time of the attack. The strike marks yet another escalation in Moscow’s ongoing aerial campaign against the Ukrainian capital, targeting both infrastructure and civilian safe zones.
Emergency services rushed to the scene as thick smoke billowed from the station, which had been serving as a makeshift bomb shelter for residents seeking refuge from the barrage of drone and missile attacks. Local authorities confirmed that the fire was sparked by debris from a drone impact and that several people required medical assistance, although no fatalities have been reported so far.

Lukyanivska station, located in central Kyiv, is a major underground hub that has frequently doubled as a civilian shelter during air raid alerts. The station was reportedly crowded at the time of the incident, as the city’s air defense systems worked to intercept multiple incoming drones.

The Geran-2 drone, widely believed to be an Iranian-made Shahed variant used by Russian forces, has become a familiar threat in Ukraine’s skies. These drones are often deployed in waves to overwhelm air defense systems and inflict maximum disruption.
