The presence of official government license plates has sparked concerns that Damascus may be actively backing tribal groups in a bid to counter growing dissent from the Druze community.

Suwayda, a predominantly Druze province in southern Syria, has seen rising unrest in recent months. Protests and demands for political reform have intensified, fueled by economic hardship, disillusionment with the central government, and calls for local autonomy.
