The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen as a spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) told Al Jazeera that an average of 112 children are being diagnosed with malnutrition every single day since the beginning of the year.
This alarming statistic highlights the devastating toll of the ongoing blockade and conflict, which have left Gaza’s healthcare system crippled, food supplies scarce, and humanitarian aid severely restricted. According to UNRWA, the situation is rapidly deteriorating, with children bearing the brunt of the collapse in basic services and access to nutrition.
“These are not just numbers. These are young lives being put at risk every day,” the spokesperson said, urging the international community to intervene and ensure the unimpeded delivery of food and medical supplies to the region.

Health experts and aid organizations warn that many of the affected children are facing severe acute malnutrition, which, if untreated, can lead to long-term physical and cognitive damage — or even death. Hospitals and clinics, already overwhelmed by injuries and supply shortages, are struggling to meet the growing demand for emergency nutritional care.

The ongoing conflict has disrupted nearly every aspect of civilian life in Gaza, from agriculture and commerce to education and public health. Humanitarian agencies continue to call for a ceasefire and immediate, sustained access to vulnerable populations — particularly children, whose future now hangs in the balance.
