In a rare and symbolic gesture, fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were seen burning their weapons as part of a broader disarmament effort, signaling what could be a major turning point in one of the region’s most protracted conflicts.
Footage from the scene showed a group of armed militants setting fire to a pile of rifles and ammunition in a mountainous area, surrounded by fellow fighters and party members. The act, while largely symbolic, is being interpreted as a gesture of goodwill and a step toward fulfilling long-standing calls for the PKK to lay down its arms.

The disarmament move follows ongoing discussions and pressure from international actors and regional authorities, urging the PKK to end its armed struggle and explore political avenues for advancing Kurdish rights. While the group has not officially announced a full ceasefire, this public display has reignited cautious hopes for de-escalation.
