A major fire has erupted at one of Russia’s most notorious high-security prisons, known as “White Swan.” The blaze was reported on Tuesday, sending plumes of smoke into the sky above the facility, located in the Perm region. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and an official investigation is underway.
“White Swan,” officially known as Penal Colony No. 2, is infamous for housing some of Russia’s most dangerous and high-profile inmates. Known for its strict regime and isolation-style incarceration, the prison has long drawn scrutiny from human rights observers due to its harsh conditions and reputation for psychological pressure.

Local emergency services responded quickly to the scene, and efforts to control the fire are ongoing. At this stage, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or casualties, and it remains unclear how much of the prison complex has been damaged. Russian officials have not yet released statements regarding the fate of the inmates or whether any evacuations have taken place.
