Israel has confirmed the killing of Hussein Ali Muzhir, a senior Hezbollah commander accused of orchestrating multiple rocket attacks from southern Lebanon, in a targeted airstrike earlier this week. The operation, carried out on July 8 in the town of al-Babliyeh, was announced on Wednesday by Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Muzhir played a central role in Hezbollah’s Badr Unit, serving as a fire coordination officer responsible for directing rocket fire toward Israeli territory, particularly from the Zahrani area.

The military says he was instrumental in planning and executing several attacks on Israeli targets and had recently been working to revive Hezbollah’s artillery network in southern Lebanon — a move Israel claims violates existing agreements between the two countries.

In an official statement, the IDF said: “As part of his role, Hussein advanced numerous fire attacks toward the State of Israel and IDF troops. Additionally, he was recently involved in efforts to restore Hezbollah’s artillery capabilities in southern Lebanon.”

While the targeted strike marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group has yet to comment publicly or confirm Muzhir’s death.

Tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border have continued to escalate in recent months, with Hezbollah launching near-daily attacks and Israel responding with increased aerial and artillery operations. This latest strike, seen as part of Israel’s broader campaign to dismantle Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the region, underscores the growing volatility in the north and the risk of wider confrontation.

Israeli defense officials reiterated their commitment to taking decisive action against threats emanating from Lebanon, with the IDF vowing to “continue operating against anyone who poses a danger to Israeli citizens and sovereignty.”
