Elon Musk has officially launched a new political party in the United States, aiming to disrupt what he calls a “one-party system” dominated by political elites. The tech billionaire, who was once a key ally and major donor to President Donald Trump, announced the formation of the America Party on Saturday, signaling a bold new chapter in his political journey.
The move follows a dramatic fallout between Musk and Trump, stemming from disagreements over the president’s expansive domestic spending plan.

Musk, who had previously led the Trump administration’s now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), had championed deep budget cuts and federal workforce reductions. But his support began to unravel as Trump pivoted toward massive spending that Musk argues will dangerously inflate the national debt.

Taking to X — the social media platform he owns — Musk declared the launch of the America Party as a direct response to what he sees as rampant government waste and bipartisan corruption. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” he wrote. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Musk’s announcement came a day after Independence Day, following a viral poll he posted asking users whether they supported “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system” that has long defined American politics.
More than 1.2 million users responded, and according to Musk, the results were decisive: a two-to-one majority backed the idea of a new political movement.
His follow-up post was emphatic: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” To drive home his message, Musk also shared a meme showing a two-headed snake, symbolizing what he calls the illusion of choice in American politics, with the caption: “End the Uniparty.”

The launch of the America Party marks a dramatic shake-up in the political landscape, especially with the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election on the horizon. While Musk hasn’t announced any plans to run for office himself, his deep financial resources, massive online influence, and growing disillusionment with Washington insiders could turn his new party into a formidable force — or at the very least, a disruptive one.
