Kyiv was engulfed in thick smoke on Thursday following one of the most intense Russian assaults on the Ukrainian capital in recent months. More than 550 drones and missiles were launched in a coordinated overnight barrage, leaving widespread destruction and fear in its wake.

Residents across the city were jolted awake by sirens and explosions as waves of Iranian-made Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic weapons rained down on key infrastructure and residential areas. By morning, heavy smoke blanketed much of Kyiv’s skyline, with emergency services racing to contain fires and assess the damage.
