A festive atmosphere turned chaotic in Cape Cod just hours before Independence Day celebrations were set to begin, as a fireworks display setup went tragically wrong, leading to multiple explosions and injuring eight people.

The incident unfolded Wednesday afternoon at the New Seabury Country Club in Mashpee, Massachusetts. According to state police and local fire officials, the explosions were triggered after a vehicle involved in offloading fireworks suddenly caught fire, igniting a chain reaction.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 4:37 p.m., where fire crews and medical teams quickly responded to the unfolding crisis. Mashpee Deputy Fire Chief Brenden Ramsey confirmed that multiple explosions occurred during the setup process for the club’s planned Fourth of July fireworks show.

Of the eight people injured, one individual suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Rhode Island for further treatment. Another person was transported by ambulance to a local medical facility, while six others were treated at the scene for less severe injuries.
