In the early hours of July 1, powerful explosions rocked the city of Luhansk, a region in eastern Ukraine currently under Russian occupation. According to confirmed reports, the blasts were the result of Ukrainian drone strikes targeting a Russian oil depot and other facilities, igniting massive fires that lit up the night sky.
Residents of the city reported hearing multiple explosions late on June 30 and into the morning of July 1, followed by thick plumes of smoke rising from the affected areas. While Russian-installed officials have not disclosed the full extent of the damage, visuals from the scene showed widespread fire and emergency responses in full swing.

The targeted strikes are part of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to weaken Russia’s military logistics and infrastructure deep behind enemy lines. Oil depots, which serve as critical fuel supply hubs for the Russian war effort, have increasingly become strategic targets in Kyiv’s campaign to disrupt occupation forces and their supply chains.
