A major breakthrough appears to have been reached in the long-running political crisis rocking Rivers State, as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reportedly agreed to put their differences aside and work together in unity.

The reconciliation was confirmed following a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by President Bola Tinubu, Wike, Fubara, and the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Speaking to the press after the late-night session, Wike, who served as the immediate past governor of the state, announced that all parties involved had resolved to move forward in peace.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor has also agreed to work with all of us,” Wike stated. “We are members of the same political family. Yes, just like humans, we all have disagreements, but there is always a time to settle, and that time is now.”

Wike emphasized that the reconciliation was complete and that the atmosphere going forward would be one of cooperation and unity. “For me, everything is over, and in joy. There is no more acrimony. We have all agreed on everything, so we thank Almighty God.”

President Tinubu had suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire Rivers Assembly in March 2025, after multiple attempts to end the political impasse failed.

The federal government subsequently declared a state of emergency in the state and appointed retired Navy chief Ibok-Ete Ibas to temporarily oversee its affairs.

The political standoff had raised fears of instability in one of Nigeria’s most vital oil-producing regions. However, with this new commitment to unity, stakeholders hope the state can now focus on governance, development, and restoring public trust.
