Israel has formally endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire declaration with Iran, signaling a temporary pause in hostilities after 12 days of intense conflict between the two longtime adversaries. In a statement released Tuesday, the Israeli government said it had “achieved all the objectives” of its military campaign, dubbed Operation Rising Lion.

The announcement came just hours after President Trump declared that a ceasefire was now in effect, urging both sides to honor the truce.

Despite the agreement, tensions flared once again when Israel reported intercepting two Iranian missiles shortly after the ceasefire went into effect. Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel would “respond forcefully” to any breach of the truce.

Iran, however, denied launching fresh attacks following the ceasefire announcement. In a statement, Tehran claimed it had “compelled” Israel to unilaterally stop its military operations, positioning itself as the party enforcing peace, while stopping short of officially recognizing the ceasefire plan initiated by Washington.
In its statement, the Israeli government said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had convened the cabinet late Monday to confirm that Israel had successfully removed what it described as an “immediate dual existential threat: nuclear and ballistic.” The message signaled that Israel sees its recent operations as having achieved not only tactical gains but also strategic deterrence.

“The government of Israel affirms that all the primary objectives of Operation Rising Lion have been met—and even surpassed,” the statement read. While celebrating the mission’s success, Israeli officials stressed that the situation remains volatile. “The danger persists,” the army warned, reinforcing that Israel remains ready to retaliate should Iran violate the terms of the ceasefire.

Although both sides have pulled back from the brink—for now—the lack of mutual recognition of the ceasefire terms and continued military posturing suggest that the region remains on edge. The next few days will test the durability of the truce and determine whether this moment marks a true turning point or simply a pause in a broader, ongoing confrontation.
