In a bold move set to reshape Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced it will begin free distribution of petrol and diesel nationwide starting August 15, 2025.

The Lagos-based mega refinery made this known in a statement on Sunday, highlighting its commitment to easing fuel logistics, supporting economic growth, and boosting accessibility.

To kickstart the initiative, Dangote Refinery has acquired 4,000 brand-new tankers powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), signaling a shift toward cleaner and more efficient energy transportation.

The company also revealed it will extend a credit facility to buyers purchasing at least 500,000 litres of fuel, granting them access to an additional 500,000 litres on a two-week credit backed by bank guarantees.

As part of its logistics plan, the refinery has invested in a network of CNG-powered booster stations and deployed over 100 CNG tankers across Nigeria to ensure efficient and timely product delivery to even the most remote areas.

“This strategic programme is a cornerstone of our wider commitment to reducing distribution costs, improving energy sustainability, and strengthening Nigeria’s economy,” the statement read.

The initiative is expected to breathe new life into dormant fuel stations, create jobs, empower SMEs, enhance fuel availability in underserved regions, and attract investor confidence in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
