A significant 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck just southwest of Lima, Peru, at approximately 11:35 a.m. local time on Sunday, June 15, 2025, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The tremor hit at a moderately shallow depth of around 66 kilometers, with its epicenter located roughly 23 km from Lima, the nation’s capital.
While the quake was strong enough to be felt across several districts in and around Lima—including Callao, San Isidro, Jesús María, and Santa Anita—it is not expected to have caused major structural damage.
Witnesses in affected areas reported light shaking, and minor incidents such as falling objects and cracked windows have been noted.

Multiple seismic monitoring agencies confirmed the event, though reported magnitudes varied slightly: France’s RéNaSS recorded a 5.4, Germany’s GFZ and RaspberryShake each reported 5.6, and the Colombian Geological Service listed it at 5.9. As is common in the immediate aftermath of such events, final data may be adjusted as scientists continue to review seismic readings.

Despite the broad reach of the tremor—felt even in towns like Huaral, 75 kilometers from the epicenter—no major casualties or significant damage have been reported so far. Emergency services remain on alert as aftershocks remain possible in the hours ahead.
Residents in the Lima region are advised to stay updated through official channels and follow standard earthquake safety precautions.
