Tensions flared in Egypt as local citizens physically confronted and expelled Western leftist activists who had gathered with the intention of marching toward Gaza.

The scene, which unfolded near Egypt’s Rafah border crossing, quickly turned chaotic as angry Egyptians pushed back against the foreign demonstrators, accusing them of interfering in sensitive national and regional matters.

Video footage circulating online shows heated arguments escalating into physical altercations, with some protesters being forcibly removed from the area.

Witnesses described a mix of frustration and nationalism driving the response, with many Egyptians expressing anger over what they perceived as outside provocation during an already volatile time.

The activists, many of whom reportedly came from Europe and North America, had intended to demonstrate in solidarity with Gaza and call for humanitarian access. However, their presence was met with strong opposition, with local residents and some pro-government groups accusing them of exploiting the crisis for political theater.

Egypt, which shares a border with Gaza, has played a key diplomatic role in the conflict, and Cairo has grown increasingly wary of international protests and movements operating on its soil without coordination.
