In a heartbreaking account from his hospital bed, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, has described the terrifying moments he experienced during the Air India plane crash that claimed the lives of 241 people. Ramesh, one of the only known survivors, said he believed he was dead before realizing he had miraculously escaped the burning wreckage.
The tragic crash occurred on Thursday when a Boeing 787 Dreamliner struck a building — reportedly a medical college — shortly after takeoff, erupting into a devastating fireball. Survivors were not expected, but Ramesh’s incredible escape has offered a rare glimpse into the final moments of the doomed flight.

Speaking from the hospital bed, Ramesh recalled a feeling of unease almost immediately after takeoff. “Within five to 10 seconds, it felt like the aircraft was stuck in the air. It wasn’t climbing — just gliding,” he said.

Suddenly, he noticed the cabin lights flickering green and white, a moment he described as the first sign something was seriously wrong.
“It suddenly slammed into a building and exploded,” Ramesh said. “I thought I was dead. Everything went black. But when I opened my eyes, I realized I was still alive and saw an opening in the fuselage.”

Instinct and adrenaline took over. He managed to unbuckle his seatbelt, use his leg to push through a gap in the wreckage, and crawl out of the twisted remains of the aircraft. What he saw as he escaped will stay with him forever.

“I saw people dying in front of my eyes — the air hostesses, and two people who were right near me,” he said. “I walked out of the rubble not knowing how I made it. I still can’t believe I survived.”

The emotional interview has resonated across the globe as rescue teams continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Initial reports suggest the aircraft failed to gain proper altitude, but the official cause has not yet been confirmed.
As tributes pour in for the victims, Ramesh’s story stands as a haunting reminder of the tragedy and a testament to the human will to survive. For the families of those lost, and for the world watching, his words paint a vivid and heartbreaking picture of the disaster — and the split-second decisions that made the difference between life and death.
