Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel on Tuesday, just one day after Israeli naval forces intercepted a small aid vessel she was aboard that aimed to breach the long-standing maritime blockade of Gaza.

Thunberg, along with a group of pro-Palestinian activists, had joined the mission to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged coastal enclave.

According to Israeli authorities, the navy stopped the vessel before it could reach Gaza’s shores and detained all 12 people on board, including Thunberg. The group was transported to Israel for processing, and Thunberg was subsequently placed on an El Al flight out of the country.

Video footage shows that she was assigned a rear seat on the aircraft with limited reclining ability, a detail that underscored the lack of diplomatic courtesies often afforded to high-profile figures in such circumstances.

Thunberg has increasingly voiced her support for Palestinian rights in recent years, expanding her global activism beyond environmental issues. Her participation in the Gaza-bound mission drew both support and condemnation, further intensifying the international debate around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The incident adds to the growing list of confrontations between international activists and Israeli authorities, as tensions in the region remain high and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to draw global attention.
