Chelsea have completed the signing of highly rated French defender Sarr from Strasbourg, with the 19-year-old putting pen to paper on a long-term eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The young centre-back arrives at a crucial time, just ahead of the Club World Cup in the United States, and is expected to be included in Enzo Maresca’s squad for the tournament, according to The Athletic.
Sarr made a strong impression last season with Strasbourg, featuring in 28 matches across all competitions. His performances were pivotal in helping the Ligue 1 side secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League play-off round.

Prior to his time at Strasbourg, Sarr spent his formative years at Lens and Lyon, making his professional debut with the latter in 2023.
The teenager has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most composed young defenders in French football. Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior has been particularly vocal in his admiration, describing Sarr as a player wise beyond his years.

“I could talk about him for hours,” Rosenior said. “His nickname is Mamadou Rosenior—he’s my son. It’s scary to show such performances at 19 with such calm in the face of such strong teams. He just has to stay humble and calm and he will be a top player for sure.”
With Chelsea set to face LAFC, Flamengo, and Esperance in the group stage of the Club World Cup, Sarr could make his debut for the Blues on the global stage. His inclusion would add depth to a Chelsea defence that is undergoing tactical refinement under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who is eager to blend youthful energy with top-level experience.
The signing underscores Chelsea’s ongoing commitment to securing promising young talent for the future. Sarr’s eight-year contract signals the club’s belief in his long-term potential to become a mainstay in their defensive line-up.
