A heated moment unfolded in the Israeli Knesset when National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir refused to address Arab Member of Knesset (MK) Ahmed Tibi as “Mr. President” during a parliamentary session.

The incident sparked immediate backlash and drew attention to the deep political and cultural divides within Israel’s legislature.

The session, which was presided over by Tibi in his capacity as deputy Knesset speaker, took a dramatic turn when Ben Gvir deliberately ignored parliamentary protocol and refused to acknowledge Tibi’s official title. His refusal was seen by many as a public show of disrespect and a political provocation.

In response, Tibi remained composed and upheld parliamentary procedures, but other lawmakers expressed outrage at Ben Gvir’s conduct. Several opposition MKs called the behavior inappropriate, saying it undermined the dignity of the Knesset and showed contempt for democratic institutions.

Ben Gvir, known for his far-right political stance, has previously clashed with Arab lawmakers over national identity and security policy. This latest episode adds to the growing list of controversies surrounding his tenure in public office.
