Liverpool have officially completed the signing of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, marking a major addition to their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

While the club has not disclosed the transfer fee or contract length, reports from British media indicate the 24-year-old has penned a five-year deal worth €35 million (£29.5 million).

The news comes on the heels of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s high-profile move to Real Madrid, leaving a significant void in Liverpool’s defense. Frimpong, known for his pace, attacking flair, and defensive discipline, is widely seen as a natural successor to the England international.

Frimpong was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win in the 2023/24 season, making an impressive 53 appearances across all competitions this year as the team finished runners-up.

His consistent performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him a move back to England — where he once came through Manchester City’s youth academy before rising to prominence at Celtic and later in Germany.

However, the competition for the right-back spot at Anfield won’t be easy. Northern Irish talent Conor Bradley, who recently extended his Liverpool contract by four years, will also be vying for that position.

Frimpong’s arrival strengthens the growing Dutch presence at Liverpool, joining up with manager Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch — a familiar and promising environment for the incoming defender.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are not done yet. The club is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz, one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders. According to sources, Liverpool have made an improved bid of £109 million ($146 million) — a deal that could make Wirtz the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

The 22-year-old German star has made it clear he prefers a move to Liverpool over interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

Wirtz enjoyed a standout season, earning the Bundesliga Player of the Season title for his crucial role in Leverkusen’s league triumph. He scored 10 goals in 31 league appearances this season and boasts a career tally of 57 goals in 197 games since debuting as a 17-year-old.

With Frimpong already secured and Wirtz potentially on the way, Liverpool’s summer rebuild is taking shape — and it signals serious intent from the Reds as they look to dominate both domestically and in Europe once again.
