A South Korean Navy P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft crashed during a routine training flight near the southeastern port city of Pohang, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The aircraft, which had four crew members on board, went down during operations intended to enhance surveillance and defense readiness.
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site, and rescue efforts are currently underway. Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the condition of the crew or the specific cause of the crash.
The P-3C Orion is a long-range, four-engine aircraft used primarily for anti-submarine warfare, maritime patrol, and reconnaissance missions. It has been a critical part of South Korea’s naval capabilities, particularly given the increasing regional security tensions.
