Newcastle United have received a major boost in their pursuit of attacking reinforcements, as Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo has been given the green light to explore transfer options ahead of the summer window.
The 23-year-old French forward, who enjoyed a breakout campaign in Ligue 1, is now officially on the radar of multiple top clubs. Kalimuendo netted an impressive 17 goals in 32 appearances during the 2024/25 season, making him the third-highest scorer in the league—only trailing behind Ousmane Dembélé and Mason Greenwood.
Remarkably, this season’s tally alone matches the total goals he scored across his previous two campaigns combined.

The former Paris Saint-Germain talent has attracted significant interest from Premier League side Newcastle United, as well as Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. With Kalimuendo’s contract at Rennes running until 2027, the French club is reportedly holding out for a fee exceeding €30 million (£26 million).

Speaking to L’Équipe, Rennes president Arnaud Pouille confirmed the striker has been granted permission to speak with other clubs. “He is one of the players who had a lot of contacts in January. We have authorised him to speak with other clubs,” Pouille stated, signaling an openness to a potential deal.

Newcastle’s interest in Kalimuendo comes at a crucial time. The Magpies are preparing for a significant reshuffle in their forward line, with veteran striker Callum Wilson expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around the future of star striker Alexander Isak, who has been linked with big-money moves to Arsenal and Liverpool.

In light of these developments, Kalimuendo could represent a vital piece in Eddie Howe’s long-term attacking strategy. His youth, goal-scoring instincts, and experience at the top level make him a compelling candidate to lead the line for Newcastle in the post-Isak era.

Despite a disappointing loss to Everton on the final day of the Premier League season, Newcastle secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Strengthening their squad depth and retaining top talent will be essential if they hope to compete on all fronts.
For Newcastle fans, the prospect of pairing Kalimuendo with Isak—or potentially replacing him—offers a glimpse into a new chapter of ambitious, European-level football on Tyneside.
