A devastating explosion at a chemical plant in eastern China has left at least five people dead and six others missing, according to local authorities. The incident occurred late Tuesday morning at the Shandong Youdao Chemical facility in Gaomi, a city in Shandong province.
The powerful blast sent a massive plume of gray and orange smoke billowing into the sky, shaking nearby buildings and shattering windows across the industrial area.
Videos widely shared on Chinese social media captured the dramatic scene, showing thick smoke engulfing parts of the complex and widespread damage to surrounding structures.
The explosion took place in one of the plant’s workshops just minutes before noon, as reported by state broadcaster CCTV. Although the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident.
