In a significant development in southern Gaza, several Hamas terrorists surrendered in Rafah and were subsequently interrogated by Israel’s Shin Bet intelligence agency, the IDF confirmed on Friday.

The breakthrough led Israeli forces to a strategically vital underground terror infrastructure, which was destroyed shortly afterward by the IDF’s 188th Brigade in coordination with elite Yahalom combat engineering units.

The surrender marked a rare moment in the ongoing conflict, offering intelligence operatives access to critical information about Hamas’s tunnel networks, operational methods, and future plans.

According to the IDF, the interrogations yielded valuable intelligence that directed Israeli forces to the underground facility, which played a central role in Hamas’s operations in Rafah.

“This was a highly significant underground asset for Hamas in the area, and its destruction severely disrupts their operational capability,” an IDF spokesperson said.

The Yahalom Unit, an elite division specializing in combat engineering and underground warfare, collaborated with ground troops to safely neutralize the tunnel complex, ensuring that it could no longer be used for storing weapons or facilitating terrorist movement.

This operation is part of Israel’s ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas’s extensive tunnel network, often referred to as the “Gaza Metro,” which is used to transport fighters, weapons, and supplies under civilian areas.

As tensions remain high in the region, the IDF reiterated its commitment to targeting terrorist infrastructure while minimizing harm to civilians. This latest operation in Rafah is being hailed by military officials as a critical blow to Hamas’s southern command structure.
