Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim didn’t mince words following another frustrating result for his side, openly admitting that the Red Devils are still far from where they need to be to challenge for the Premier League title.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Amorim was brutally honest about United’s ongoing issues, acknowledging that despite controlling games and creating opportunities, the lack of goals continues to haunt them.

“I have to be honest with the fans—we’re missing a lot,” Amorim said. “We’ve created plenty of chances, we’ve dominated games, stopped key players from the opposition, but one moment—a set piece—changes everything. That’s the difference, and it’s really frustrating to end the game that way.”

The Portuguese coach expressed his disappointment with the result, stating that although his side often looks better on paper, the only thing that counts is putting the ball in the back of the net.

“If you watch the match, we were clearly the better team. But in football, that doesn’t mean anything if you don’t take your chances. At the end of the day, what matters is the result, especially in moments like this.”

United’s lack of cutting edge up front has been a recurring theme throughout the season. Striker Rasmus Højlund, once heralded as a future star, has found the net only once in 28 league appearances and just six times in 45 outings overall.

The dry spell has fueled calls from fans and pundits alike for the club to explore alternatives, particularly with Joshua Zirkzee now sidelined due to injury. Still, Amorim isn’t ready to pin the blame on a single player.

“I know people are talking about Rasmus,” he said. “But for me, this is a team issue. Yes, we need a more clinical edge, but that responsibility doesn’t fall on one player. We have three attacking players and midfielders who are capable of scoring. You saw that today—we had opportunities.”

He emphasized that scoring must become a collective effort if the team hopes to find success. “This league is unforgiving. If you don’t score, you don’t win—it’s as simple as that.”

Despite the current struggles, Amorim remains hopeful. He reassured fans that work is ongoing behind the scenes and that a turnaround is still possible as the season nears its close.

“We have a plan. We talk about it every single day. But right now, the focus has to be on finishing this season strong. There’s still time to turn things around, and that’s what we’re going to fight for.”

Manchester United’s next few games could prove crucial—not just for their standings but also for rebuilding confidence among players and supporters. One thing is clear: Amorim knows what needs fixing. Now, it’s about finding the goals to match the performances.
