Newcastle United will be without manager Eddie Howe for their next two Premier League fixtures, as the 47-year-old continues to recover in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Howe, who had been feeling unwell for several days, was admitted to hospital last Friday. He watched Sunday’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Manchester United from his hospital bed, as his side delivered a statement performance to climb back into the Premier League’s top four.

On Monday, the club confirmed that Howe will miss Wednesday’s home game against Crystal Palace and Saturday’s away clash with Aston Villa. In his absence, assistant coaches Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead preparations and manage the team from the touchline.

“Newcastle United can announce that Eddie Howe is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia,” read an official club statement. “The club continues to extend its best wishes and support to Eddie and his family as he continues his recovery.”

Howe also shared a heartfelt message with supporters, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support.
“A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family,” he said.

Despite being sidelined, Howe remained closely involved, celebrating the win over Manchester United and staying in contact with the squad. The Magpies looked sharp and focused in Sunday’s display, a testament to Howe’s influence and the team’s resilience.

Newcastle will look to continue their momentum against Crystal Palace on Wednesday at St. James’ Park. Avoiding defeat will see them leapfrog Nottingham Forest into third place—a testament to the team’s strong campaign so far, even amidst the temporary absence of their manager.

Everyone at the club—and across the footballing world—is wishing Eddie Howe a swift and full recovery.
