Google has unveiled two new features for its Gemini AI suite: Canvas and Audio Overview. These innovations aim to enhance AI-driven content creation, providing users with real-time editing capabilities and engaging audio summaries.

The features are now rolling out globally for Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers, according to Google’s official blog.

Canvas is designed to help users create, edit, and refine their work seamlessly. By selecting Canvas in the prompt bar, users can write and modify documents or code, with instant updates reflecting their changes. This functionality goes beyond traditional AI-generated content, allowing for real-time collaboration and refinement.

“Gemini can already help you brainstorm ideas, conduct deep research, and generate content for your projects. And starting today, Gemini can offer even more support—whether it’s editing a document with you in real time or turning your idea into a working prototype,” Google stated.

Canvas enables users to quickly generate high-quality drafts and refine them with AI-powered suggestions. Whether adjusting tone, length, or formatting, users can highlight sections and apply modifications to make content more concise, professional, or informal. Additionally, documents can be seamlessly exported to Google Docs for further collaboration.

Beyond writing, Canvas simplifies software development by offering code generation, debugging, and explanation tools. Developers can leverage it to quickly transform ideas into working prototypes, whether for web applications, Python scripts, or game development.

The platform allows users to generate and preview HTML/React code, modify input fields, and add buttons—all with real-time updates. This reduces the need to switch between multiple applications, streamlining the coding process.

Alongside Canvas, Google introduced Audio Overview, a feature that transforms documents, slides, and research reports into engaging, AI-generated audio discussions. This innovation builds on the success of a similar feature in NotebookLM, bringing an interactive element to content consumption.

“Gemini will create a podcast-style discussion between two AI hosts who, with just a click, dive into a dynamic conversation based on your uploaded files,” Google explained.

These AI hosts summarize content, connect key themes, and provide unique insights, making complex information more accessible.

Designed for students, professionals, and researchers, Audio Overview converts class notes, research papers, and even email threads into easily digestible audio summaries, enhancing learning and productivity.

Google confirmed that both features are now available globally. Canvas supports all languages compatible with Gemini, while Audio Overview is initially launching in English, with additional languages expected to follow. Users can access both tools through Gemini’s web interface or mobile app.

With these enhancements, Google continues to push the boundaries of AI-driven productivity, making content creation, coding, and research more efficient and accessible. Whether refining a document, building a software prototype, or listening to an AI-powered discussion, Gemini users now have powerful new tools at their disposal.
