Russia’s defense ministry reported on Tuesday that its air defense units intercepted and destroyed 46 Ukrainian drones overnight, with most of them targeted over the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border.

According to a statement shared on the Telegram messaging app, 41 drones were shot down over Belgorod, while the remaining five were intercepted over the Bryansk, Kursk, and Oryol regions.

The overnight attack reportedly caused damage to multiple homes in Belgorod, and one person was injured, as confirmed by the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov.

In contrast, Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the Bryansk region, stated that there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage in his region.

While Russian officials view these drone incursions as acts of aggression, Kyiv has consistently defended its cross-border operations as strategic responses to Moscow’s ongoing military campaign.

Ukrainian officials argue that such strikes are aimed at disrupting critical infrastructure that supports Russia’s war efforts—an effort they justify as retaliation for relentless Russian bombardments over the past three years.
