After nearly three decades at the creative helm of Versace, Donatella Versace is stepping down from her role as Chief Creative Officer. In a significant shift for the iconic fashion house, Miu Miu’s Dario Vitale will take over as the new creative lead, effective April 1, 2025.
This transition marks a historic moment, as it officially ends family control over the brand’s creative direction. Founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace, the label became synonymous with bold, opulent, and sensual designs that defined luxury fashion for generations.
Following Gianni’s tragic passing in 1997, Donatella took on the immense responsibility of carrying forward his legacy.

Reflecting on her journey, Donatella shared her heartfelt sentiments: “It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity.” While stepping away from creative leadership, she will continue to be a vital part of the brand as its Chief Brand Ambassador.

Dario Vitale, currently leading design direction at Miu Miu, has made waves in the luxury fashion scene, particularly in targeting younger audiences. His expertise will bring a fresh perspective to Versace, blending the brand’s rich heritage with contemporary trends.
“Versace boasts a unique legacy that has shaped fashion history, and I’m honored to take the creative reins,” Vitale stated.

This leadership change coincides with reports that Prada Group—parent company of Miu Miu—might be in discussions to acquire Versace from its current owner, Capri Holdings Limited.
Capri, which acquired Versace in 2018, is reportedly seeking around €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) for the brand. If the deal goes through, it would mark another major consolidation in the luxury fashion industry.
As the fashion world watches closely, one thing is certain—Versace is entering a new chapter. With Vitale at the creative forefront and Donatella as its most passionate advocate, the brand is poised to evolve while staying true to its bold, glamorous roots.
